BALL TYPE : Official Carolina League. COMMENTS / CONDITION : Offered is a vintage Official Carolina League baseball hit by Gene Oliver for his first homerun of the season. According to the notation, it was a Grand Slam hit against the High Point-Thomasville Hi-Toms. At the time, Oliver was playing for the Winston-Salem Red Birds. Proceeds from the estate of Gene Oliver. See photos for additional details including condition. BIO : Eugene George Oliver was born in 1935 in Moline, IL and died in 2007 in Rock Island, IL. He went to college at Northwestern University. He played major league baseball from 1959 to 1969 as catcher, 1st baseman and outfielder for the St. Louis Cardinals, Milwaukee Braves, Atlanta Braves, Philadelphia Phillies, Boston Red Sox and the Chicago Cubs.
